Der Giza Pyramid Complex liegt am Rand der Westlichen Wüste mit Blick auf Kairo und ist Ägyptens bekannteste archäologische Stätte. Die während der Vierten Dynastie des Alten Reichs (ca. 2613–2494 v. Chr.) errichtete Anlage besteht im Kern aus drei monumentalen Pyramiden: der Großen Pyramide des Khufu (ursprünglich 146,5 m hoch und 3.800 Jahre lang das höchste Bauwerk der Welt), der Pyramide des Khafre (143,5 m, an der Spitze noch mit Resten der originalen Kalksteinverkleidung) und der kleineren Pyramide des Menkaure (65 m). Die Große Sphinx, aus dem gewachsenen Felsen geschlagen und mit dem Körper eines Löwen und dem Kopf eines Menschen, bewacht den östlichen Zugang. Rund um die Hauptpyramiden befinden sich kleinere Nebenpyramiden der Königinnen, Mastaba-Gräber von Adligen, Totentempel und Taltempel, Aufwegen sowie die Überreste eines Arbeiterdorfes. Die Stätte gehört zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe Memphis and its Necropolis, das 1979 in die Liste aufgenommen wurde. Besucherinnen und Besucher können das Plateau erkunden, ausgewählte Pyramideninnenräume betreten (im Wechsel geöffnet) und die Sphinx sowie die zugehörigen Tempel besichtigen.
