Das 1984 vom Maler Antoni Tàpies gegründete und heute als Museu Tàpies bekannte Museum beherbergt eine der umfassendsten Sammlungen seiner Werke, die größtenteils von Antoni und Teresa Tàpies gestiftet wurde. Es öffnete 1990 im ehemaligen Verlagshaus Montaner y Simón (1880–82), einem frühen Modernista-Bau von Lluís Domènech i Montaner und dem ersten Gebäude im Eixample, das unverkleideten Backstein und Eisen ins Stadtzentrum brachte. Tàpies krönte die Fassade mit seiner verschlungenen Drahtskulptur Núvol i cadira (Cloud and Chair). Neben wechselnden Ausstellungen zu Tàpies’ Werk zeigt das Museum Ausstellungen zeitgenössischer Kunst und unterhält eine spezialisierte Kunstbibliothek in den originalen Regalen des Verlagshauses.
