Fundat el 1961 sota el lema «Art in Life», Suntory Museum of Art conserva unes 3.000 obres d’art japonès –laca, ceràmica, vidre, tèxtils tenyits i pintura–, entre les quals hi ha un Tresor Nacional i nombrosos Béns Culturals Importants i Objectes d’Art Importants. Des del 2007 ocupa un espai dissenyat per Kengo Kuma a la tercera planta de Tokyo Midtown Galleria, a Roppongi, després d’haver estat ubicat anteriorment a Marunouchi i Akasaka, i va reobrir el 2020 després d’una renovació. En lloc d’una exposició permanent fixa, el museu presenta un programa rotatiu d’exposicions especials temàtiques, amb obres pròpies i préstecs externs.
