El Seoul Museum of History ressegueix la transformació de la ciutat: de Hanyang, capital durant la dinastia Joseon, a través de l’Imperi coreà i el domini colonial japonès, fins a la moderna República de Corea. Les sales permanents acullen prop de 250.000 peces, aproximadament la meitat donades per ciutadans, a més d’una maqueta de la ciutat a gran escala i de recursos multimèdia que imaginen el futur de Seül. El museu és al costat del palau de Gyeonghuigung, al centre de Jongno-gu, i organitza regularment exposicions temporals gratuïtes sobre fotografia, història urbana i cultura material de Seül.
