CaixaForum Madrid ocupa una antiga central elèctrica del 1899 al Paseo del Prado, transformada entre el 2001 i el 2007 pels arquitectes suïssos Herzog & de Meuron en un centre cultural que sembla flotar sobre el nivell del carrer. La seva plaça està presidida pel jardí vertical de Patrick Blanc, un dels murs verds més fotografiats de Madrid. El centre no compta amb una col·lecció permanent; en el seu lloc, ofereix una programació canviant de grans exposicions itinerants que aborden l'art, l'arqueologia, la història i la ciència, a més de concerts, conferències i activitats familiars.
