Gestionat per la Generalitat de Catalunya i inaugurat el 1996, el Museu d’Història de Catalunya ocupa el Palau de Mar, els antics Magatzems Generals i l’únic edifici que encara es conserva de l’antic port industrial de Barcelona. La seva exposició permanent interactiva, La memòria d’un país (The Memory of a Country), recorre vuit períodes de la història catalana, des dels orígens prehistòrics i la Tarraco romana fins a la Guerra Civil, la dictadura i l’actualitat. El programa es completa amb exposicions temporals, visites guiades i activitats familiars.
