Fundat pel pintor Antoni Tàpies el 1984 i conegut avui com el Museu Tàpies, conserva una de les col·leccions més completes de la seva obra, en gran part donada per Antoni i Teresa Tàpies. Va obrir al públic el 1990 a l’antiga editorial Montaner y Simón (1880-82), un dels primers edificis modernistes de Lluís Domènech i Montaner i el primer de l’Eixample que va incorporar el maó vist i el ferro al centre de la ciutat. Tàpies va coronar la façana amb la seva escultura de filferro trenat Núvol i cadira (Cloud and Chair). A més d’organitzar exposicions temporals de l’obra de Tàpies, el museu presenta mostres d’art contemporani i conserva una biblioteca especialitzada en art, instal·lada als prestatges originals de l’editorial.
