تأسست Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando بموجب مرسوم ملكي عام 1752، وتتخذ منذ سبعينيات القرن الثامن عشر مقراً لها في قصر كلاسيكي جديد بشارع Calle de Alcalá، لتجمع بين كونها أكاديمية فنون نشطة وأحد أقدم متاحف Madrid. تمتد مقتنياتها من القرن الخامس عشر حتى القرن العشرين، وتضم روائع الفن الإسباني والإيطالي والفلمنكي، بما في ذلك ثلاث عشرة لوحة لـ Goya، والعمل الوحيد لـ Arcimboldo المحفوظ في إسبانيا، ولوحة Agnus Dei لـ Zurbarán. كما يحتضن المبنى مقر Calcografía Nacional، وهي المجموعة الوطنية لنقوش وطبعات Goya الفنية.
