بعد إعادة افتتاحها في 2023 عقب تحول جذري، تروي National Portrait Gallery قصة بريطانيا من خلال شخصياتها. تمتد المجموعة على ستة قرون من فن البورتريه، من لوحة Henry VIII لـHolbein إلى بورتريهات Hockney الذاتية. يأخذك التصميم الجديد للمعرض في مسار زمني يبدأ من الطابق العلوي وينزل تدريجياً، بينما تُخصَّص صالات الطابق الأرضي لعرض التصوير الفوتوغرافي المعاصر والأعمال المُكلَّف بها خصيصاً. تتميز الـNational Portrait Gallery بهدوء وطابع أكثر حميمية مقارنةً بجارتها National Gallery.
