Collection show on being human in a posthuman world, framed by the Sphinx's riddle, with kinetic, data-driven and AI works by teamLab, Memo Akten and others.
You walk into a room of Eames chairs on the fourth floor, and the ones nearest you lift off the floor. A surveillance system has spotted you, and pistons raise each chair 40 cm, so a wave rolls across the rows as you move. In Perili Köşk, the Haunted Mansion, this is the one room where the furniture really does move when you come in.
The show is eleven works by nine artists from Borusan's own collection, over three floors. The second is mostly screens: a teamLab digital waterfall, Memo Akten's AI-made landscapes of geological time and Marco Brambilla's Hollywood montage Heaven's Gate, with Kemal Önsoy's drawings from 1978 to 1988 as the counterweight. Higher up it turns mechanical, with two Zimoun installations built from hundreds of small motors.
It's open Saturdays and Sundays only, 10:00 to 19:00. Tickets are 350 TL, free for children 12 and under. Free 40-minute guided tours start at 11:00, 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00, no booking needed.
Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's rows of Eames chairs rise 40 cm in a wave as the cameras pick you up, inside the Perili Köşk, literally the Haunted Mansion. Elsewhere, Zimoun fills a shipping container with 317 motors working on paper bags.
Wavefunction (Subsculpture 9)
Look for Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's rows of Eames chairs on the fourth floor, which pistons lift 40 cm off the ground in a wave when the tracking cameras detect you.
Zimoun's 1,944 motors
Also on the fourth floor, a wall of MDF panels about 6.5 metres wide carries 1,944 small motors, each fitted with an 8 cm metal disc.
Zimoun's shipping container
On the sixth floor, a full shipping container holds 317 motors working on paper bags.
Universe of Water Particles
teamLab's digital waterfall runs across five channels on the second floor, in a continuous loop.
250 K
Daniel Canogar projects moving images onto a three-metre bank of recycled copper cable, on the second floor.
Children 12 and under go free. Two works react to visitors: the chairs that rise as you approach on the fourth floor, and DRIFT's Coded Nature 1 screen on the second.
