Costruita nel 1933 come residenza tokioita del principe Asaka Yasuhiko, questa dimora Art déco fu progettata in collaborazione con l’artista francese Henri Rapin e arricchita da opere decorative in vetro di René Lalique. Dopo essere stata utilizzata come residenza del primo ministro e foresteria di Stato, nel 1983 fu aperta al pubblico come museo. Una ristrutturazione realizzata nel 2014 ha aggiunto un’ala moderna, progettata insieme al fotografo Hiroshi Sugimoto; il complesso comprende inoltre un giardino giapponese con una casa da tè del 1936 e sculture all’aperto.
