Altro a Istanbul

A Seat 131, the Murat 131 that Türkiye's new middle class drove in the 1970s, sits at the top of an asphalt ramp. Ahmet Öğüt built it from two cars, stretched it into a limousine and left it there with its wheels just off the ground.

The show gathers works by 24 artists from the Arter Collection around one question, which the curator Selen Ansen puts as "When and where are we ever at home?" You move between household things made strange and works on exile, borders and prison. A bed cast in white paraffin bulges as if something were pushing up from inside. Seventeen white chairs circle a turning rod that taps the crystal glasses on their seats.

Arter's English guide, on its website, gives a page to each work. The show fills Gallery 4 on the fourth floor. Tickets are 450 TL, free for under-24s and for everyone on Thursdays, when Arter stays open until 20:00.

Da non perdere

  • Ahmet Öğüt, Across the Slope

Look for a Seat 131 made from two cars into a stretched limousine, stranded at the top of an asphalt-like ramp with its wheels just off the ground.

  • Inge Mahn, Chair Circle

Seventeen white chairs stand in a circle with empty crystal glasses on their seats, and a turning aluminium rod taps the glasses to make a broken, ringing sound.

  • Francesco Albano, V November

A bed in white paraffin that reads like a snowfield, its surface pushed up into reliefs as if something were pressing from inside.

  • Fatma Bucak, Enduring Nature of Thoughts

White enamel basins sit at different heights across the floor while dripping sounds with no visible source fill the room.

  • Stéphanie Saadé, We've Been Swallowed by Our Houses

The plan of her Beirut lockdown apartment, redrawn as a labyrinth and embroidered onto a tablecloth the size of her dining table, later lost in the port explosion.
