Fondato da Auguste Mariette e inaugurato nel 1902, il Museum of Egyptian Antiquities conserva oltre 120.000 reperti che abbracciano migliaia di anni di civiltà egizia antica. L'edificio neoclassico, progettato dall'architetto francese Marcel Dourgnon, occupa una posizione di rilievo su Tahrir Square, al Cairo. La collezione comprende i tesori della tomba di Tutankhamun, la Narmer Palette, statue dei grandi faraoni, papiri, monete e reperti provenienti da quasi ogni epoca della storia dell'antico Egitto.
