"I work with what is hard to see," Na Mira has said, and she means it literally: her installations are built from radio frequencies, infrared heat and holography. For her first solo museum show in New York, she filmed at sites of personal and historical significance, letting chance and desire steer the shoot.
The result is one new commission, projected across the Kravis Studio, MoMA's room for performance and moving images. Mira draws on Korean shamanic ritual and on structural film, and calls her practice "not film, not video, not performance, not text". MoMA says the aim is to break down the faithful image that propaganda and soft power depend on.
You walk into it straight from the fourth-floor collection galleries, so it fits inside an ordinary MoMA visit. It suits people who like art about how images work and fail; nobody has reviewed it yet. Seating changes with each Studio installation, and gallery stools are available on request at the Museum entrances.
