L'edifici principal del Wien Museum a Karlsplatz, dissenyat per Oswald Haerdtl a la dècada del 1950, va reobrir les portes el 6 de desembre de 2023 després d'una remodelació i ampliació a càrrec de Certov, Winkler + Ruck, que hi va afegir dues plantes i un nou pavelló d'entrada. La seva exposició permanent gratuïta, «Wien. Meine Geschichte», recorre la història de Viena al llarg de tres plantes i 1.700 objectes, des dels primers assentaments fins a l'actualitat. Entre les peces més destacades hi ha el retrat d'Emilie Flöge pintat per Gustav Klimt el 1902, una maqueta de cinc metres de la catedral de St. Stephen i Poldi, la balena de deu metres del Prater. Les exposicions temporals ocupen la planta superior, on un cafè s'obre a una terrassa d'accés lliure amb vista sobre el centre de la ciutat.
