Inaugurat el 2001, el Leopold Museum té l'origen en la col·lecció que Rudolf i Elisabeth Leopold van aplegar al llarg de cinc dècades, constituïda juntament amb la República d'Àustria i l'Oesterreichische Nationalbank. Les seves més de 5.000 obres se centren en l'art austríac de la primera meitat del segle XX, des de la Secessió fins a l'expressionisme. Custodia la col·lecció d'Egon Schiele més gran del món, amb més de 220 peces, al costat de pintures fonamentals de Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka i Richard Gerstl. La presentació permanent «Viena 1900: El naixement del modernisme (Vienna 1900: Birth of Modernism)» les contextualitza entre el mobiliari, el disseny i les idees de l'època.
