Fundat per Auguste Mariette i inaugurat el 1902, l'Egyptian Museum conserva més de 120.000 artefactes que abasten milers d'anys de la civilització de l'Egipte antic. El seu edifici neoclàssic, dissenyat per l'arquitecte francès Marcel Dourgnon, ocupa un lloc destacat a la Tahrir Square del Caire. La col·lecció inclou tresors de la tomba de Tutankamon, la Paleta de Narmer, estàtues dels grans faraons, papirs, monedes i objectes de gairebé tots els períodes de la història de l'Egipte antic.
