El Stasi Museum ocupa l'Edifici 1 de l'antiga seu central del Ministeri per a la Seguretat de l'Estat de la RDA a Lichtenberg, construït entre 1960 i 1961 com a seu oficial del cap de la Stasi, Erich Mielke. Inaugurat el 1990 per l'associació de drets civils ASTAK, mostra com es va estructurar aquest «escut i espasa del Partit», com actuava i qui hi treballava. L'exposició permanent «La seguretat de l'Estat sota la dictadura del SED» (State Security in the SED Dictatorship) s'articula a partir d'arxius, fotografies i equips de vigilància de la Stasi, i té com a peça central el conjunt de despatxos del mateix Mielke, conservats pràcticament tal com els va deixar.
