El museu nacional d’art de Catalunya ocupa el Palau Nacional, construït amb motiu de l’Exposició Internacional de 1929, i hi conserva la seva col·lecció des de 1934. És conegut sobretot per les pintures murals romàniques, extretes d’esglésies pirinenques entre 1919 i 1923, especialment les de l’absis de Sant Climent de Taüll. La col·lecció recorre el gòtic, el Renaixement i el barroc fins al modernisme català, el noucentisme, la fotografia i l’art de la Guerra Civil espanyola. Les terrasses del terrat ofereixen vistes panoràmiques de Barcelona.
