Japonia inperialak 1908an eraiki zuen, Gyeongseong Gamok izenarekin. Adreilu gorriko espetxe hartan Korearen independentziaren aldeko ekintzaileak eduki zituzten preso –Yu Gwan-sun nerabe martiria, besteak beste–, 80 urtez, aginte kolonialaren, zatiketaren eta diktaduraren pean; 1987an itxi zuten. Jatorrizko hamaika eraikin gorde dira, tartean ziega-eraikinak, lurpeko tortura-ganbera, talaia-dorreak eta exekuzioen eraikina, gorpuak ateratzeko tunel ezkutua duena. 1998az geroztik, historia-museo eta oroimenezko parke gisa funtzionatzen du, Korearen independentziaren aldeko borrokari eta haren historia politiko modernoari aurrez aurre begiratzeko.
