Photographs from Argentine newspapers La Razón and Clarín trace four decades of political life, from Perón through coups and rallies to the return of democracy.
Every picture here was shot for the next morning's front page. Photographers at the Buenos Aires papers La Razón and Clarín worked on deadline, and LA Insider calls these "working pictures, made fast for tomorrow's front page and never intended to survive their news cycle." To build the show, the Archive of Modern Conflict spent 18 months reviewing, digitising and identifying some 25,000 archive prints one by one.
The show runs from Perón's rise to the return of democracy, with coups, rallies and disappearances in between. You get daily life alongside the politics: Clarín's own report from the opening lists work, holidays, traditions, entertainment and new technology among the subjects. LA Insider's verdict is that the Wende lets the speed of the pictures stay visible while they add up to "something a single frame could never carry."
Come for Argentina's Cold War as the people covering it on deadline saw it. Admission is free with no reservation, and the museum is open Friday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.
