A sound-system-shaped sculpture of photographs taken across east London, Plymouth and Peterborough, tracing Black British music as connective tissue through which communities gather, remember and move together.

You come out of The Music is Black on Level 2, and just outside it stands a sound system built from eight lightboxes. Each one holds a single photograph. Rene Matić says the pictures "look for music in the gestures of people".

The sound system is a Jamaican form that came to Britain with the Windrush generation. Matić, a Turner Prize nominee who lives in east London, took the photographs there, across the wider city, in Plymouth and in Peterborough: Notting Hill Carnival, east London nightlife, friends and family moving to music. Some come from their archive and some are new. They frame their photos after the teak 1970s speakers they used in an early solo show, and they ask: "Can an image be heard?"

It is one free piece, not a show of rooms, so catch it on the way into or out of the ticketed exhibition it answers. The museum stays open to 10pm on Thursdays and Saturdays. It closes Sunday 18 October.
