The Wallace Collection is one of London's best-kept secrets — a palatial townhouse in Manchester Square filled with an extraordinary private collection of French 18th-century art, Old Master paintings (Titian, Rembrandt, Velázquez), medieval armour, and Sèvres porcelain. Laughing Cavalier by Frans Hals is the star, but the ornate rooms themselves are just as impressive. The glass-roofed courtyard restaurant is lovely. It feels like visiting a wealthy collector's home, because it was.
